Man charged after police say they found drugs, 13 firearms in bedroom
A Fairview Township man is facing 23 criminal charges after police say he was found with drugs and weapons, including firearms and explosives.
Barry L. Steele Sr., 65, was charged Thursday, March 18, by state police with 13 felony counts of prohibited possession of a firearm, two felony counts of possession with intention to deliver controlled substances, felony receiving stolen property, two misdemeanor counts of controlled substance possession and five misdemeanor counts of offensive weapon possession following an incident Thursday morning.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, state and Butler police executed a search warrant in conjunction with the state attorney general’s office Thursday on Slippery Rock Road in Fairview Township. Police said they found Steele in the bedroom and detained him.
Police said they found 22 full and two partial bricks of heroin and fentanyl and two jars of marijuana in the bedroom. Three shotguns, five rifles, two pistols, three revolvers, two brass knuckles, a commercial mortar and a grenade were also found in the bedroom, police said.
Steele’s preliminary hearing is set for 9:15 a.m. March 31 before District Judge Lewis Stoughton. He’s being held in Butler County Prison on a $125,000 bail.
