Building destroyed on Browntown Road in Mercer Township
A fire on Tuesday morning, March 17, destroyed a building containing tractors along Browntown Road in Mercer Township.
The fire, reported just before 10:50 a.m. at 311 Browntown Road, had already fully engulfed the building when crews were arriving, according to Butler County Emergency Services.
The property owner was working inside the building in the morning and had left, according to Chief Steve Bickel of the Harrisville Volunteer Fire Company. He said the next time the owner looked, he saw smoke coming from the building with fire in a front area.
The building housed at least 30 machines, including antique tractors, Bickel said. The cause of the fire was yet to be determined.
“It could have been a lot worse,” Bickel said.
Harrisville Volunteer and Marion Township Volunteer fire companies; Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Team; Superior Ambulance Service; Butler Township Volunteer Fire District; Pine Township Engine Company; and West Sunbury, Grove City, Clintonville and Springfield Township volunteer fire departments responded.
