Butler police, postal inspection teaming up to educate on scams
Butler police is teaming up with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service to educate seniors on scams and fraudsters targeting them, Mayor Bob Dandoy said at the Thursday, March 12, city council meeting.
The two organizations will host a discussion at 11 a.m. March 26 at St. Michael’s Social Hall in collaboration with All Saints Parish. A presentation will begin at 11:15 a.m. and will last about 30 minutes with a question-and-answer session afterward.
Dandoy said these scams are becoming more prevalent through mail, social media, email and text messaging.
“We will provide information to assist people in not becoming victims of these crimes,” Dandoy said.
He reminded residents government agencies do not solicit cash or gift cards, and he encouraged residents to call 911 and ask police if a payment request seems legitimate.
