Buffalo Township makes second try for comprehensive plan funding
BUFFALO TWP — The township is persisting in its efforts to create a joint comprehensive plan with the neighboring borough of Freeport, in Armstrong County.
At their monthly meeting on Wednesday night, March 11, the Buffalo Township Board of Supervisors approved a second application to Pennsylvania’s Department of Community and Economic Development for funding from the state’s Municipal Assistance Program, which — if approved — would offset the costs of putting the plan together.
Buffalo Township previously submitted an application to the program in the fall of 2025, but according to solicitor Brian Farrington, the township has yet to hear back from the DCED.
“Rather than wait until probably late April, possibly even May, to see if the township and borough were successful in their endeavor in their first application, it makes sense to just continue to apply on a rolling basis,” Farrington said. “That way there’s not a delay if you wouldn’t get the first round of funding, but you do get the second round of funding.”
The Municipal Assistance Program provides funding to assist municipal governments with funding for implementing community planning and shared services initiatives. Comprehensive plans are one of the eligible funding uses.
