Police: SRU student threatens to kill officer Saturday

A Shippenville man is accused of telling a Slippery Rock University police officer he would “shoot her between her eyes.”

Xavier Scott Van Tassel, 20, was charged Saturday, March 7, by Slippery Rock University police with four misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats and charges of evading arrest and disorderly conduct following the incident.

Police said they were dispatched to the second floor of Suite A for reports of a man knocking on random doors. Police said Van Tassel was covered in mud and had a cut on his left knee.

Van Tassel was assessed by EMS and had a BAC of 0.216%, police said.

Police said they explained the charges to Van Tassel as he was being evaluated by EMS, which led him to run. Police eventually apprehended him.

While in custody at the Slippery Rock University police station, police said Van Tassel threatened to kill the officer.

Van Tassel’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. March 18 before District Judge Joseph Nash. He’s being held in Butler County Prison on a $100,000 bail.
