AHN, Independence release top baby names
Both Allegheny Health Network and Independence Health System have unveiled their lists of top baby names for boys and girls born in 2025.
If the lists are anything to go by, some common names, such as Steve, Michael, Sarah and Mary, might soon go the way of the dodo.
Out of the 8,756 babies born at AHN facilities in 2025 — a record for the hospital network — 43 baby girls were given the name Olivia, making it AHN’s most popular girl name for the fourth consecutive year. The next four most popular girl names were Amelia (40 babies), followed by Charlotte, Sophia and Violet.
The most popular name for boys born at AHN facilities was Henry, with 42, followed closely by Bennett (40 babies), Owen, Theodore and William.
AHN’s trends for boy and girl names closely follow national trends. Olivia was also the country’s most popular girl name of 2024, according to statistics gathered by the Social Security Administration, while Henry was the sixth most popular boy name. Amelia, Charlotte, Sophia, Theodore and William also appeared in the top 10 for their respective genders, as did the alternative spelling, Sofia.
The most frequently tracked name for boys born at Independence Health System facilities in 2025 was Wyatt, followed by Maverick, Silas, Grayson, Giovanni, Miles, Rowan, Sonny, Parker and Jackson.
The most popular name for girls born at Independence facilities was Riley, followed by Adeline, Vivian, Amelia, Elizabeth, Kinsley, Aubrie, Mia, Emersyn and Ava.
