Tariffs driving up costs in U.S.

President Donald Trump does not want Canada trading with China, and has been threatening them with more tariffs. He truly does not understand that it is he, and his tariffs, that started all of this in the first place. He thought that countries would crumble to his tactics, but instead, they have found other trade partners.

I believe some MAGA diehards support tariffs, thinking it is other countries paying them. I think they also falsely believe we are bringing jobs to the rust belt. With Trump’s on-again, off-again tariffs, companies are apprehensive to move forward.

Many people don't realize that only 4% of tariffs are paid for by other countries, while 96% are paid for by corporations and American consumers. Additionally, it takes years for corporations to develop the infrastructure to move industries back to the U.S. that left because they were no longer competitive here. American consumers are also negatively impacted by higher prices as domestic companies take advantage to raise prices on products they manufacture while the cost of imported goods rises.

Around the world, instead of making America great again, he has managed to make us a laughing stock and an untrustworthy trade partner. Here, for Americans, he is driving up the cost of consumer goods.

In addition to his tariffs and the other terrible things he has done, he is increasing our national debt by trillions.

Remember in November, all of this has been done with U.S. Rep Mike Kelly’s support.
