Zelienople man charged with home improvement fraud

A Zelienople man allegedly replaced a contract signed for a home improvement project in Center Township with a false contract with different terms and did not complete the work, police said.

Tyler James Snyder, 24, was charged Tuesday, Feb. 17, by state police in Butler with felony home improvement fraud and misdemeanor tampering with records following a Jan. 15 incident.

Police spoke with a woman who said she signed a contract with Snyder regarding payment for a home improvement job, but the work was not complete.

The woman paid Snyder $24,000 over three payments and requested a refund that was not issued, police said.

Police said Snyder presented a contract to the woman’s attorney that was different from the contract she had signed. The woman said she had never signed or agreed to the terms in the second contract and her signature on the second contract did not match her signature on other documents.

Snyder’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. March 31 before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
