Franklin Road traffic impacts to continue amid utility work
Utility work along Franklin Road is set to continue as part of a multiyear safety improvement project in Cranberry Township, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced Thursday, Feb. 19.
PennDOT said crews are relocating and installing water and gas lines on Franklin Road between the intersections of Route 228 and Peters Road. Work began last year and is expected to continue through May.
Multiple single-lane restrictions will be in place daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with flaggers directing traffic.
After utility work is completed, the contractor will begin installing new drainage and widening shoulders. Those activities will impact motorists from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
PennDOT said drivers should expect traffic shifts, lane restrictions and possible road closures and detours and are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible.
Additional details on future traffic impacts will be announced in advance.
The Franklin Road Corridor Safety Improvement Project includes shoulder widening, installation of edge-line rumble strips and sight-distance improvements along the corridor.
The $19.1 million project is expected to be finished in early November 2027.
