Chicora High School graduates donate leftover reunion money to fire department
The last class graduated from Chicora High School in 1959 before the school closed its doors and consolidated into Karns City Area Junior/Senior High School. Nearly seven decades later, the remaining students are providing a $1,000 gift to Chicora Volunteer Fire Department.
The money was formally presented to the fire department on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at the Chicora fire hall.
According to Dan Cunningham, who graduated after the merger in 1965, the money was left over from planning for a reunion of surviving Chicora High graduates, which was held in September.
“Over the years, I've raised money for reunions, held every three years,” said Cunningham. “After this year, it was decided there would be no more reunions. It was decided to donate the money to a community organization in Chicora.”
