Man sentenced in hit-and-run crash
A Westmoreland County man was ordered to pay $13,224 in restitution as a part of his sentence Thursday for a hit-and-run crash in Adams Township.
Jeffrey D. Monteleone, 56, of Lower Burrell, was sentenced in Butler County Common Pleas Court to serve 2 days to 12 months in the county prison and pay $12,724 in restitution to Progressive Insurance and $500 to the victim after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of accidents involving damage to an attended vehicle in a plea agreement. He was given credit for time served and paroled.
Township police said Monteleone was driving a truck owned by Butler Color Press, whose general manager gave Oilology owner Keith Smith permission to allow his employees to drive the truck for diagnostic and repair purposes.
On Jan. 7, 2025, police responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 228 and Warrendale Road and used surveillance footage to track a truck that left the scene.
Police said Monteleone confirmed he drove the truck, but denied being involved in the crash. Police observed gray paint streaks on the front passenger side of the truck. They later determined Monteleone’s driver’s license is suspended.
In a separate case, Monteleone was sentenced to serve 12 months of probation and pay fines totaling $300 after pleading guilty to charges of false identification and driving with a suspended license filed by Buffalo Township police following a Nov. 23, 2024, incident.
