Family to focus on grocery business, assisting with other events

Those looking forward to the return of Sprankle’s Octoberfest and West Fest will have to wait until 2027 at the earliest.

Doug Sprankle, local event organizer and owner of Sprankle’s Neighborhood Market grocery store in Saxonburg, said all planned events at his family’s Sprankle Woods venue in the southeastern part of the county have been canceled for 2026.

The reason, according to Sprankle, is so the family can focus on operating its chain of three Sprankle’s Neighborhood Markets, which also includes locations in Kittanning and Leechburg.

“We wanted to focus on our grocery business and obviously there’s a lot of pieces to the event business,” Sprankle said. “The stores need our attention, and we need to focus on them for the sake of our community.”

Sprankle said he would spend time assisting other event organizers with their events throughout the year.

“There's a lot of great event organizers in our community, and we want to use our resources to assist them in any way we can,” Sprankle said. “We’ll still assist with other community events, but as far as running our own, we have nothing on the schedule.”

Sprankle’s Woods was forced to cancel a number of events last summer, including a smaller German-themed event called “Sprankle Fest,” due to damage to the grounds caused by prolonged rainfall.
