Prospect man charged with felony strangulation, terroristic threats
A Prospect man is being held in county jail after an alleged incident on Dec. 31 in which he is accused of physically assaulting his mother and threatening to kill her.
Jerry A. Higley, 33, has been charged with felony strangulation; misdemeanor terroristic threats and simple assault; and summary harassment.
The alleged incident took place at a home on David Street in Prospect.
According to an affidavit, Higley’s mother told state police on Thursday the two had gotten into an argument over “rooms and animals in the residence” when he pushed her to the ground and wrapped his hands around her neck. He later grabbed a knife and threatened to kill her if she called the police.
According to the affidavit, Higley’s mother called the police from a neighbor’s house out of fear of retaliation.
According to police, they later interviewed Higley’s father, who told them Higley took the cellphones from both his parents to prevent them from calling the police and threatened to kill him as well.
Higley is currently being held at the Butler County Prison on $150,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 14 in front of District Judge Joseph Nash.
