Both H.P. Starr lumber stores to be rebranded after acquisition

Change is coming to two Butler County lumber stores at the start of 2026.

Both H.P. Starr Lumber Company locations, which can be found in Middlesex and Jackson townships, will fully rebrand to Lezzer Lumber locations as a result of their acquisition by the larger chain. The acquisition was announced earlier this month.

The same also applies to Brookside Lumber in Bethel Park, which is part of the same ownership group as the two H.P. Starr stores and was also acquired by Lezzer Lumber.

According to Lezzer Lumber marketing director Bill Thomas, the acquisition of the two H.P. Starr stores was made largely to relieve congestion at the existing Lezzer Lumber location on East Butler Road in Butler.

“Our Butler location is just about knocked out. We don’t have the room for materials,” Thomas said. “Butler's a very, very busy store. That's going to be able to help Butler ease some of the burden of holding material.”

Thomas said there are no plans to close any of the three stores they’ve acquired, or to lay off or make redundant any employees.

“We plan on keeping them status quo, just as it was for H.P. Starr and Brookside Lumber,” Thomas said.

“This acquisition is about strengthening our business and maintaining what makes us special, our people,” said Jennifer Jaki, marketing director for H.P. Starr and Brookside Lumber. “Our priority is moving forward together as a team with no immediate plans for layoffs.”

Thomas said the sale of the three Starr and Brookside stores occurred largely because the owners, the Edwards family, wanted to retire and were looking to sell.

“The two Edwards brothers and the one sister were getting older. They didn't want to own it forever,” Thomas said. “Sure enough, they sold it to us.”

“Although ownership is changing, our commitment to our customers remains the same,” Jaki said. “They can expect to see the same familiar faces, reliable service and quality materials they’ve always counted on.”
