Clinton Township expects balanced budget for 2026, no tax increase

Clinton Township is expected to approve its proposed 2026 budget at a special meeting Dec. 22. Revenue and expenditures in the proposed spending plan are balanced at $1,477,385.

Multiple township supervisors have told the Butler Eagle that no tax increase is expected and that the township will maintain its current municipal tax rate of 4.74 mills.

Approximately half of the township’s budgeted expenses for 2026 — $744,786 — are earmarked for road-related expenses. Of those, $251,400 will go toward road and bridge maintenance or repair, while $263,886 is set aside for road crew wages.

Nearly 60% of the projected 2026 revenue for the township — $870,860 — is expected to come from taxes, including $12,160 from a recently enacted fire hydrant tax.

Dual roles

At a meeting held Wednesday, Dec. 10, supervisors adopted a resolution which would allow only one supervisor to serve in another employed capacity at the same time.

These include the positions of roadmaster, secretary, treasurer, assistant secretary, assistant treasurer, or “in any other employed capacity by the township.”

According to the text of the ordinance, the objective is to prevent conflicts of interest that may arise when multiple supervisors also serve as township employees. The ordinance becomes effective at the start of 2026.
