Holiday services across Butler county

The following is a list of church services to be held in Butler County and the surrounding area on or around the Christmas holiday.

Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh

Catholic churches across Butler County will be holding Mass on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, including All Saints Parish, Divine Grace Parish, Saint Clare of Assisi Parish, Saint Faustina Parish, Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, Saint Mark the Evangelist Parish. Center Presbyterian Church

The local nonprofit Christian choir Adoring Christ Thru Song (ACTS) is hosting a free Christmas concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, at Center Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock. This year’s concert is entitled “Emmanuel, God Be With Us.” Attendees are encouraged to register through the group’s website.

Faith United Presbyterian Church

Congregants of both Faith United and White Oak Springs Presbyterian churches are invited to Faith United Presbyterian Church in Center Township on Christmas Eve at 2 p.m. for a combined candlelight service.

Grace Presbyterian Church

Grace Presbyterian Church in Kittanning is hosting its annual Christmas Cantata at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7. Admission is free.

The cantata this year is “Once, There Was a Star,” an original composition by Chris Renaud and Alex Irwin, students at Carnegie Mellon University. Performing the cantata will be the choir from Grace Presbyterian Church, along with vocalists and instrumentalists from Carnegie Mellon University.

Mt. Chestnut Presbyterian Church

Adoring Christ Thru Song is hosting a free Christmas concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, at Mt. Chestnut Presbyterian Church in Butler. This year’s concert is entitled “Emmanuel, God Be With Us.” Attendees are encouraged to sign up through the group’s website.

Nixon United Methodist Church

Nixon United Methodist Church in Penn Township is hosting a “Blue Christmas” service at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21.

A Blue Christmas service, also known as a “Longest Night” service, is a special type of holiday service which is held on Dec. 21 — the winter solstice, or the longest night of the year. Blue Christmas services are tailored for those who are experiencing grief or loss during the holiday season.

Victory Family Church

Victory Family Church, located on Route 19 in Cranberry Township, will hold services at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Child care will not be available during any of the sessions.
