St. Andrew’s Church helps dozens brown bag it for Thanksgiving
With days to go before the Thanksgiving holiday, dozens of families gathered at the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Nov. 23, to grab a bagged lunch as part of the church’s weekly food distribution.
“If you're in need of one, anybody that needs one can just walk up,” said volunteer Bill Finucan.
Each Sunday, the responsibility for handling the weekly bagged lunch program is rotated among four local churches. Finucan and Dorothy Mincer, volunteers from East Butler Presbyterian Church, were in charge of managing the program on Sunday and do so every fourth Sunday of the month.
Each bagged lunch contains a sandwich, fruit, a bottle of water and some snacks.
According to Mincer, the program is set up to provide up to 50 bagged lunches per week.
“Fifty is what it was set up for originally, but COVID hit and it fell down to nothing,” Mincer said. “And now it's built back up again and between 40 and 50 people come through.”
The weekly distribution takes place each Sunday at noon after the weekly service and lasts until supplies run out.
