The proposed budget for Middlesex Township for the 2026 fiscal year is not expected to include a tax increase.

The draft budget, which was first advertised on Wednesday, Nov. 26, anticipates a slight surplus for 2026, with total revenues of $3,857,187 set against expenditures of $3,837,910, leaving a surplus of $19,276.

The township is proposing to keep the general real estate tax rate at 10.5 mills, along with an additional tax of 1.5 mills to support the Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company.

As with most municipalities, the vast majority of revenue is expected to come from taxes in the amount of $3,112,737. Of that, $992,737 is projected to come from real property taxes, while another $1.7 million is expected from earned income taxes.

The fire services tax is expected to bring in $123,000. The township is also anticipating $1,288,440 in Act 13 Marcellus Shale impact fee funding and $303,096 in state liquid fuels funding.

Public safety and infrastructure make up the majority of projected expenses for Middlesex Township with $949,000 earmarked for the Middlesex Township Police Department and $451,000 set aside for road maintenance and repair. A total of $1,215,500 is set aside for highways and streets, including administrative costs.

The 2026 budget is expected to be finalized and approved at the regularly scheduled board of supervisors meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 17.
