William ‘Snaz’ McCandless

McCandless

William H. “Snaz” McCandless, 88, of Harmony, formerly of Callery, passed away Sunday afternoon, Nov. 9, 2025, at his home.

Born in Mars on Nov. 14, 1936, he was the son of the late Wilbur H. and Bonnie Davidson McCandless.

He had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He had been a member of the Mars Jaycees.

He had served as mayor of Callery and was a life member and former fire chief of Callery Volunteer Fire Department.

Snaz had been a plumber for Morehead Plumbing in Mars, a welder at Mine Safety Appliances, and then he worked at both Pfeifer Hardware in Mars and McCormick Hardware in Zelienople.

He was a member of Old Union Presbyterian Church and more recently attended Grace Bible Church in Lancaster Township.

Surviving are a daughter, Marsha McCandless, of Harmony; two sons, Bradley William McCandless (Darcie), of Evans City, and Craig McCandless (Linda), of Slippery Rock; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Donna Decker, of Harmony.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol L. Mincer McCandless, whom he married Dec. 30, 1959, and who died Sept. 16, 2016; and by his son, Jeffrey McCandless.

MCCANDLESS — Friends of William H. “Snaz” McCandless, who died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at MCDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars. Services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with the Revs. Peter deVries and Joseph Pisano officiating.

Memorials may be made to Callery Volunteer Fire Company or to Old Union Presbyterian Church or Grace Bible Church.
