The fate of the Tanglewood community center in Butler Township, which formerly served as one of the county’s seven senior centers, is expected to be known before the end of November, according to one of the building’s directors.

“Our Tanglewood building is currently under a pending sale, and we are hopeful that the closing will be finalized in November,” said Nancy Rettig of the Tanglewood’s board of directors. “After the sale, we will be sharing the building with the new owners.”

This was corroborated by Beth Herold of the Butler County Area Agency on Aging, who also told the Butler Eagle the sale is expected to close in November. However, she declined to name who the prospective buyer was.

“All I know is that Tanglewood is under a sales agreement and that the tentative closing date is around Nov. 14,” Herold said.

Butler County Commissioner Leslie Osche previously told the Butler Eagle a “religious organization” was the prospective buyer for Tanglewood.

Senior center activities which were previously held at Tanglewood have moved to a temporary location at Butler Township Park.

A permanent senior center is under construction on North Duffy Road, which will also house the Butler County Area Agency on Aging office when completed.

However, according to Rettig, nonsenior center activities are scheduled to continue at Tanglewood even after the senior center’s departure and will continue after the sale’s closure. These include the center’s Sunday and Monday bingo events and twice-monthly community dinners.

“We will continue to host our weekly bingos and our twice-a-month dinners as usual. We are also exploring additional activities for the future,” Rettig said. “Our plan is to continue operating independently of the new owners. Regarding other activities, it's difficult to say at this time, as we are uncertain what the future may bring.”

Rettig also said Tanglewood’s board of directors will remain in place after the sale.
