Jondavid Longo, the incumbent mayor of Slippery Rock borough, will remain in his position after winning reelection Tuesday, Nov. 4 in a tight contest against the planning commission chairman, according to unofficial election night results.

Longo, the Republican candidate, will serve another term as mayor after receiving 439 votes, or 52.5% of the vote, in the general election against Democratic candidate Douglas Cook, according to unofficial election results reported in the Butler County Bureau of Elections precinct report for the borough.

Cook, the current chairman of the borough’s planning commission, received 396 votes, or 47.4% of the vote, in the race.

“It feels good to know that the voters chose experience, they chose dedication and commitment, they ultimately chose someone who is dedicated and committed to the success of this community,” Longo said. “I’m honored to have the confidence of the voters. I’m looking forward to beginning a third term and building on the many successes we’ve had.”

Longo has served as mayor of Slippery Rock for two terms now, first winning the position in 2017.

While celebrating his reelection, he credited colleagues he’s worked alongside for the past two terms and the success they’ve had, which includes not raising taxes and erasing public debt.

As Longo enters his third term, he said he would continue to work in lockstep with his colleagues, and that those priorities would remain some of his main focuses.

“I’m lucky to be surrounded by such a great group of partners in government and community,” Longo said. “My family has supported me so much.

“It’s important now more than ever as I’m raising a family here, we need to continue to do work not just for my children, but those who will inherit this community some day.”
