Hezlep salvages Cranberry Township supervisor seat in narrow race

Bruce Hezlep

There won’t be any changes on the Cranberry Township board of supervisors in 2026.

Republican incumbent and current Chairman Bruce Hezlep narrowly won reelection for a six-year term after receiving 5,212 votes, or 50.6% of the vote, in the general election against Democratic challenger Brandon Dukes, according to unofficial election results reported in Butler County Bureau of Elections summary reports.

Dukes, meanwhile, garnered 5,077 votes, or 49.3% of the vote. Seven write-in votes were cast.

“I’m very grateful for the residents that turned out to vote,” Hezlep said. “This is just proof that every vote counts. I spoke with Brandon recently, and I thanked him for running a very positive campaign. I applaud him for running, and it’s clear we both want what’s best for Cranberry Township.”

Hezlep, who has served on the board for 12 years, has been a Cranberry resident for more than 31 years and boasts more than 36 years of experience in leadership, finance, technology and public safety.

He currently serves as the director of public safety for Pine Township in Allegheny County and previously worked in the private sector for more than three decades with companies such as L.B. Foster, PeopleSoft, Oracle and Sage, focusing on accounting and information systems.

For the past 23 years, Hezlep has been a volunteer with the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company, where he serves as assistant chief and has responded to more than 3,000 emergency calls.
