Local child makes quarterfinals of Variety Magazine Baby of the Year contest
At just 16 months old, Valentina Geibel is already making her mark on the world by advancing to the quarterfinal round of Variety Magazine’s “Baby of the Year” contest.
Valentina, the daughter of Donald and Ana Maria Geibel, took the highest number of votes in a group of 49 babies during the “group finals” portion of the competition.
“Honestly, I just saw an ad for it and thought, ‘why not?’” Donald Geibel said. “I didn’t really go in with any expectations other than everyone tells us how cute she is.”
Advancement in the competition is determined by which baby receives the most votes from supporters through Facebook. Supporters of each baby can make one free vote every 24 hours, but can also purchase additional votes with proceeds from these extra votes supporting the Baby2Baby nonprofit.
The winner of the competition, which will be announced in December, will receive a glossy advertorial photo shoot in the pages of Variety Magazine and a $25,000 cash prize will be awarded to the winner’s family.
