Freeport School District accepts resignation from embattled teacher
BUFFALO TWP — The Freeport Area School District on Wednesday, Oct. 8, officially accepted the resignation of Jared C. Lampus, a teacher facing sexual assault charges.
The school board voted to accept the resignation from the 50-year-old, now-former Buffalo Elementary School teacher during their monthly meeting.
Members of the board declined to comment, stating that they did not want to comment on personnel matters at the school district. However, Lampus’ name has not been listed on the school district’s website since August.
Lampus is currently incarcerated in Butler County Prison awaiting formal arraignment on charges where he is accused of engaging in inappropriate contact with a teenage girl under the guise of “self-defense lessons.”
Lampus was arrested on Aug. 15 and charged with felony counts of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, criminal attempt at involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, trafficking, aggravated indecent assault, sexual assault, intercourse with a student, sexual assault by a sports official, unlawful contact with a minor, and corruption of minors; along with misdemeanor counts of indecent assault and theft by deception.
At the time the alleged activities were taking place, Lampus was acting as a coach for Pittsburgh Elite Volleyball, and the teen was one of his players.
Although Lampus pleaded not guilty to the charges at a preliminary hearing in August, the case was moved forward to the Court of Common Pleas. Lampus’ formal arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 14. His bail at Butler County Prison is set at $500,000.
