BUTLER TWP — Butler County welcomed its newest senior living facility with a Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting for Lutheran SeniorLife’s new Benbrook Place in Butler Township on Monday, Sept. 29.

“I think it's a wonderful facility,” said Butler County Commissioner Kevin Boozel, who was on hand for the ribbon cutting. “I actually toured it before the ceremony. It's beautiful and it's going to offer a high quality living space for seniors, and we need to take care of our seniors. I’m very excited to have this facility right here in Butler Township.”

Benbrook Place is a sister facility to another Lutheran SeniorLife facility, the Passavant Community in Zelienople, with the same team managing both facilities.

The new senior living community is located on the site of the former Advanced Care Center of Butler, a nursing care facility which closed its doors earlier this year. Unlike the former Advanced Care Center, the new Benbrook Place is focused on independent living.

“The building itself has had a couple of different lives, so to speak,” said Laura Roy, executive director of the Passavant Community. “It had been VNA Inpatient Hospice, and then it was a skilled nursing community and now it's licensed personal care.”

The new facility consists of 27 apartments, 25 of which are intended to house a single senior resident. Two of the apartments can accommodate a couple. So far, one of those single apartments has already been filled, according to Roy. Each of the apartments is equipped with “smart home” technology, such as smart room lighting and an Amazon Echo Dot.

“The facility will provide all of the personal care services that an individual would need,” Roy said. “Support with medication administration, activities of daily living and then, all of the life enrichments and opportunities that individuals need to experience an abundant life.”

Roy said 10 staff members are currently working on-site at Benbrook Place, with more soon to come.
