BC3 meets reaccreditation standards
Butler County Community College president Megan Coval said at a Sept. 17 board of trustees meeting the college received word from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education that it “met all standards and requirements” for reaccreditation this past June.
“That is tremendous news and a big announcement, that is a process that we have been going through as an institution over the past two to three years with so many people involved,” Coval said. “We had a sense when our visitors from the evaluation team came in March that we had passed, but they weren’t able to officially say it until over the summer.”
The Middle States Commission on Higher Education is an organization that performs accreditation reviews of public and private colleges and universities in the Mid-Atlantic Region of the United States.
According to BC3, the school met seven individual standards required by the MSCHE. The standards relate to mission and goals, ethics and integrity, delivery of the student learning experience, support of student experience, an educational effectiveness assessment, planning and institutional improvement, and governance and administration.
The reaccreditation means BC3 can continue many of its normal operations. It’s degrees will continue being recognized by employers, students credits are transferable to other colleges and students can continue receiving federal financial aid.
“It is a guarantee to our students, to our families and community that BC3 education is valuable and credible and widely respected,” Coval said.
