2 Eagle Scout projects approved for Butler Township
BUTLER TWP — Supervisors approved two Eagle Scout project proposals from members of Boy Scout Troops during the board’s monthly meeting on Monday, Sept. 15.
The first project to be approved is a 6-foot bench for Preston Park specifically for dogs, proposed by Bryson Stoops of the Butler Ruritan Boy Scouts Troop 6.
“I want to build something for dogs, because I enjoy being around dogs and seeing them in the park,” Stoops said.
The bench, intended to be placed along the park’s dog trail, would contain a lower section small enough for a small dog to jump onto it, and would be designed in the shape of a dog bone with the words “Me and My Best Friend” engraved on it.
Stoops estimates the bench would cost $200 to build, with the funds coming from family and friends. The bench would be built by himself, his family and members of the Scout troop.
Nathan Swartzbeck, member of Boy Scout Troop 19 in Butler Township, proposed a Little Free Library box at Lohner Park on David Drive.
“My goal is to promote literacy and learning by encouraging reading and giving free access to books for all ages,” Swartzbeck said. “The library provides a resource for families who may not have easy access to the public library. I hope that the library will inspire lifelong learning and curiosity.”
Swartzbeck expects the library box to be finished and officially opened by the end of October. He said it will be built with “sustainable composite materials.”
Both projects were approved unanimously by supervisors.
