3 Slippery Rock youth football players injured at game vs. Karns City
Three players on a Slippery Rock youth football team suffered injuries during a game against Karns City on Saturday night, Sept. 6. The injuries took place during a junior-level game at Karns City Area Jr./Sr. High School’s Diehl Stadium.
Shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday, emergency medical services were called to the stadium for a reported head injury. A 7:30 p.m. report indicated a second head injury.
At least one medical helicopter was called, according to scanner traffic.
“The injuries occurred during different plays over the course of the game,” said Slippery Rock Youth Football & Cheer in a statement to the Butler Eagle. “Appropriate medical attention was provided on-site and, when necessary, players were transported to receive further care.”
Slippery Rock Youth Football declined to comment on the nature of the injuries, or mention which medical facilities the players were taken to, due to privacy concerns.
Two of the injured players attend schools in the Slippery Rock Area School District.
“Two of our students were injured over the weekend in a youth football game,” district superintendent Alfonso Angelucci said Tuesday. “Our thoughts and concerns are with them and their families at this time.”
