Mars EMT charged in indecent assault of minors case
State police arrested an Adams Township man in connection with an investigation of an Aug. 24 incident and accused him of sexual assault of minors after conducting interviews with multiple juvenile victims.
Nathan Workmen Mitchell, 51, of Adams Township, has been charged with sexual assault by sports official, indecent assault without consent of other, indecent assault person substantially impaired, indecent assault person less than 13 years of age, corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of children, state police said Saturday, Sept. 6.
“The incident was reported on Aug. 24 around 9:18 p.m.,” said Trooper Bertha Cazy, Troop D state police public information officer, on Friday.
The arrest comes after Mars Area Recreational Sports announced Friday that it banned an EMT from further involvement in the program citing allegations of misconduct.
“On the evening of Sunday, Aug. 24, the board was informed of allegations of misconduct involving the EMT who had previously supported our program,” the M.A.R.S. board announced in a Friday, Sept. 5, statement.
Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldinger confirmed Friday, Sept. 5, that there was an ongoing investigation into an EMT and the allegations.
Quality EMS issued a statement Thursday that said Mitchell worked part time for the service for two-and-a-half years and is on leave. It said there were no reports of allegations or known incidents while he worked for the agency.
“He was working as an independent contractor for Mars Youth Football, not as a Quality EMS employee,” the service said in a statement Saturday.
The M.A.R.S. board also said the alleged incident occurred outside organization activities and it has never received reports of inappropriate conduct during program events.
Mars Area School District also released a statement Friday that it was aware of the investigation and banned the individual from its grounds.
The investigation into Mitchell is ongoing, according to state police.
