Butler woman charged with possessing crack, pipes near 2 children

A Butler woman was charged with endangering the welfare of her two children after being arrested for possessing crack cocaine and several crack pipes within the children’s vicinity.

Alisha R. Westbrook, 40, was arrested by Butler Bureau of Police on Aug. 28 after police searched her and her car during a traffic stop on West Jefferson Street.

According to a criminal complaint, Westbrook was pulled over in a parking lot at 502 West Jefferson Street after not using a turn signal. In her car with her were two men, along with her 10-year-old and 6-year-old daughters.

The police officer who filed the complaint said the stop happened less than an hour after Westbrook was spotted pacing outside her car in a parking lot at 224 N. Main St., which the officer said is in an area known as a “high drug trafficking area.”

According to the complaint, the police officer had Westbrook step out of the car and patted her down for weapons. When Westbrook pulled a dollar bill out of her pocket, the bill unraveled and a small piece of “suspected crack cocaine” fell out and onto the ground.

The police officer then searched her car and allegedly found four glass crack pipes, two with burnt residue, on the floor board and underneath the car seats — one underneath the 6-year-old’s booster seat.

Westbrook was charged with four misdemeanor counts, including two counts of endangering the welfare of children, and one count each of possession of a controlled substance and use and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Her bail was set at $10,000, and she is currently being held at the county jail.

A preliminary hearing for Westbrook is scheduled Sept. 8 in front of District Judge William Fullerton.
