An unidentified woman died by suicide via self-inflicted gunshot wound at Moraine State Park on Saturday, Aug. 30.

According to Dustin Drew, manager of Moraine State Park, the incident occurred near the Bear Run Boat Launch on the park’s South Shore, and park rangers first became aware of the situation shortly after 5:30 p.m.

“We’re still working with state police and looking into it,” Drew said. “We don’t really want to mention anything else at this time.”

According to Butler County deputy coroner Larry Barr, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene and was not taken to a hospital.

An employee stated that Moraine State Park is open for business on Sunday with no restrictions.
