Polling place changes planned in several Butler County municipalities

Polling places in Brady and Concord townships will change for the Nov. 4 election, and changes to three other polling places are pending further action.

Butler County Commissioners discussed the changes during their meeting Wednesday. They briefly switched hats to serve as the board of elections when elections bureau director Chantell McCurdy outlined the changes.

She announced that the Brady Township polling place will remain in the township municipal building, but at its new location at 131 West Liberty Road. The former municipal building at 141 West Liberty Road used to be the polling place.

The Concord Township polling place will return to its original location at Concord Presbyterian Church, 673 Hooker Road. McCurdy said the poll was moved to the North Washington Volunteer Fire Department social hall on Oneida Valley Road, Washington Township, while repairs were being made to the church. The poll is returning to the church now that the repairs have been completed, she said.

The board of elections agreed to petition Common Pleas Court to relocate Cherry Valley’s polling place from the uninhabited Veterans of Foreign Wars building to the Eau Claire Volunteer Fire Department social hall because there are no suitable locations in the borough.

McCurdy said the move has been discussed with poll workers for both precincts and the Cherry Valley mayor, and the judge of elections and mayor approved the move.

She said the board will vote at its next meeting to consider relocating the Buffalo Township precinct 2 and the Petrolia polling places.

The Buffalo Township precinct 2 poll would move from the Sarver Volunteer Fire Company station at 110 Elliot Road to the Christ Community Fellowship Church at 160 Singleton Road.

The Petrolia polling place would be relocated from the borough building at 110 Cross St. to the Petrolia Volunteer Fire Department social hall at 200 Argyle St.

The commissioners agreed to provide Mars with $50,000 from the county’s $5 surcharge on vehicle registrations toward the $218,200 cost of upgrading Spring and Ridge avenues. Spring Avenue hasn’t been repaved in over 36 years, and the project includes stormwater mitigation.

The funding for Mars brings the total distribution from the $5 fee fund to $1.3 million, and that money has resulted in $11.4 million in project work, said Mark Gordon, chief of planning and economic development.

The commissioners awarded an $82,609 contract to repave Vogleyville Road in Summit Township to Wiest Asphalt Products and Paving. Wiest submitted the lowest of three bids for the project.

In addition, the commissioners approved an intergovernmental agreement allowing deputy sheriffs to serve bench warrants and provide security services for the domestic relations department, and a contract with attorney Chad Templin to assist the department’s child support collection efforts.
