SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — As Slippery Rock Area School District prepares for the return of its students on Sept. 4, superintendent Alfonso Angelucci said the district presently has the necessary staffing to keep its buses running.

“Right now, we’re OK, but that doesn’t mean it can’t change on a dime,” he said at a school board meeting on Monday, Aug. 25. “It’s always something we’re trying to be cognizant about.”

The district moved forward on its transportation plans during Monday’s meeting, as the school board voted unanimously to approve returning bus and van drivers, as well as setting the bus schedule for the upcoming semester.

Recently, concerns have been raised about bus driver staffing across the county after Butler Area School District superintendent Brian White sent a letter Friday, Aug. 22, to inform Butler parents the district lost 13 bus drivers in recent days due to “another regional school district” offering large signing bonuses for bus drivers.

Angelucci said he and district administration will continue to monitor the situation into the school year.
