Woman gets prison sentence for armed robbery in Zelienople

A Pittsburgh woman who robbed a Zelienople gas station using a gun was sentenced to serve 2 to 5 years in state prison.

Andrea L. Carney, 45, was sentenced Thursday, Aug. 21, in Butler County Common Pleas Court by Judge Timothy McCune after pleading guilty to a felony charge of robbery filed by borough police following the Jan. 3 incident.

Her sentence included serving 60 months of probation after her release from prison and paying $2,104 in restitution to the Sunoco in Zelienople and $367 to an auto towing business. Carney was given credit for having served 225 days in county jail.

Police said Carney entered the gas station with a gun in her hand at about 2:35 p.m. Police were told she entered the building, placed the gun on the counter and said, “Give me the money. All of it, now. Don’t press any buttons.”

After receiving the money from the cash register, police said, Carney stole additional money from skill game machines.

Police said they reviewed footage showing the suspect fleeing on foot before getting into a vehicle registered under Carney’s name. Police informed Butler, Allegheny and Beaver county authorities and requested they search for the vehicle.

Pittsburgh police contacted Zelienople authorities Friday evening, reporting the vehicle was spotted parked along Fifth Avenue. Authorities obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and found a jacket and gun in the trunk of the car, according to police.
