For its annual picnic on Sunday, Aug. 17, St. Clare of Assisi Parish has added a new fundraiser — a pair of skydivers from Skydive Pennsylvania who will parachute into a field near St. Wendelin in Summit Township.

The skydivers are participating in a unique cash raffle. Attendees to the fundraiser will have the opportunity to purchase a numbered plate for $5, and before the skydivers arrive, all the numbered plates will be placed in the field.

When the skydivers land in the field, each one will pick up the plate closest to them. The person with the number of the first plate to be picked up will win $250, while the holder of the second plate number will win $500.

The parish picnic, which is 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., will feature a basket raffle, bingo, car cruise and games for children.

The skydiving raffle is scheduled between 5 and 6 p.m., weather permitting.
