New Callery memorial to receive missing plaque later this month
CALLERY — The borough’s veterans memorial, which was officially dedicated in May, is expected to receive one more finishing touch later this month in the form of a plaque with the names of several donors.
Crystal Huffman, borough council member, said the plaque was expected to be part of the memorial upon its official dedication, but its arrival was delayed due to shipping problems with the manufacturer.
“They sent it to the wrong place, and then they had material shortages,” Huffman said during a borough council meeting Monday, Aug. 5. “It’s supposed to ship by the 20th.”
The plaque will feature the names of at least five individuals and groups who made the largest financial contributions to the veterans memorial, which sits beside the Callery municipal building on Railroad Street. According to Huffman, the donors listed on the plaque contributed between $2,500 and $3,000 toward the project.
Among the list of names is the Callery Volunteer Fire Company, which donated a pair of benches to the memorial site.
The project was also funded through the sale of memorial bricks with the names of local veterans engraved on them, which were sold for $25 each.
