Experience North Country Trail in style
The Butler County Chapter of North Country Trail has planned two activities for August.
The first — a hike to see the fireworks at the annual Moraine State Park Regatta — starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2. Hikers meet at Wyggeston Trailhead off Route 528 in the state park. This is a moderate 3- to 4-mile hike.
Hikers should bring a headlamp or flashlight, a blanket or compact hiking chair, and wear hiking boots or sturdy shoes. They also should bring water and snacks.
The second hike — an easy walk to see blazing star flowers and goats on the park’s prairie — leaves at 6 p.m. Aug. 6 from Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, Brady Township.
During this child-friendly ramble, hikers will see the blazing star flowers, then go slightly farther into the prairie to meet the goats working as a lawn service during the summer by eating grass and plants. Hikers should wear sturdy shoes and bring water.
