Clearview Mall closed due to power failure
The Clearview Mall in Center Township closed for the entire shopping day on Wednesday, July 30 due to a power failure.
The closure affected nearly every store at the mall, with closure notices posted on both social media and on the entrances to the mall and the affected stores. The mall itself announced the closure on its social media page shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday.
As of July 30, the mall consists of at least 16 shops, restaurants, or other establishments. Of those, at least six — Texas Roadhouse, Compadres Mexican Restaurant, Dollar Tree, Dunham’s Sports, Dragon Chinese Restaurant, and Lock Solid Storage — were forced to close due to the power failure.
Three others — Altitude Trampoline Park, Boscov’s, and Rural King — were able to stay open. Boscov’s had few working lights and their escalator was out, while the trampoline park had no phone or internet service and could only accept cash.
Both Boscov’s and the trampoline park had external generators, according to employees.
“Some of the lights are down but everything seems to be working here except for the A/C,” said Boscov’s cashier Veronica Miller.
“The power outage happened last night,” said Breauna Hendricks, party host manager at Altitude. “The internet’s been out all day. Our phones have not been working since noon and we’re waiting for them to come back.”
A reason for the power failure is not yet known, but a crew from West Penn Power was seen working near a power line at the Boscov’s at 6 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
