Saxonburg promotes 2 police officers

SAXONBURG — Borough council approved the promotion of two part-time police officers to full-time at its monthly meeting on Tuesday night, July 15, boosting the number of full-time officers in the Saxonburg Police Department to four.

The borough declined to identify the two individuals who were promoted, as they technically haven’t accepted their offers of promotion as of Tuesday night.

Borough solicitor Sean Gallagher said a news release on the promotions would be issued at a later time.

As a result of the two promotions, borough council also approved the activation of a civil service commission, which is required under Pennsylvania law for boroughs and first-class townships with a police department of three or more full-time officers.

“(The commission) deals with the promotion of officers and the hiring of officers, and sets standards,” Gallagher said.

According to the department’s Facebook page, the total number of officers at Saxonburg, including part-time officers, is 10.
