Ellwood City man charged with reckless endangerment after police chase
An Ellwood City man accused of leading state police on a high-speed pursuit across the Butler/Lawrence County line is facing numerous charges, including a potential felony charge of attempting to flee an officer.
Leokey Carr Jr., 78, has been charged with fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to signal, speeding, driving with an expired registration, 16 counts of reckless endangerment, and 14 counts of improperly shifting lanes.
The incident took place on the morning of June 10. According to the police affidavit, Leokey’s Ford Explorer crashed into a telephone pole on Pleasant Valley Road in Muddy Creek Township. When a trooper arrived on the scene to assist Carr, but Carr pulled his damaged vehicle onto East Portersville Road and accelerated away.
This resulted in a high-speed pursuit, during which Carr’s vehicle traveled over 90 mph in a 50 mph zone and crossed the center line multiple times.
According to the affidavit, the pursuit ended in Perry Township, Lawrence County, when the officer performed a PIT maneuver on Carr’s vehicle.
No preliminary hearing is scheduled for Carr as of Wednesday, July 9.
