Another Mars Fightin’ Planet is on the doorstep of MLB.
JJ Wetherholt, a 2021 graduate of Mars High School, was promoted Monday by the St. Louis Cardinals to their Triple-A affiliate in Memphis, Tenn.
The news came a week before he plays in the MLB All-Star Futures Game, which he was named to recently. Wetherholt, MLB.com’s No. 19 prospect in all of baseball, was having a big season at Double-A Springfield, hitting .300 with seven home runs and 14 stolen bases. He’s a nearly .300 hitter since reaching the pros.
A shortstop and second baseman, he was drafted last year by the Cards No. 7 overall.
