Adams Township seeking fancy new electronic park sign
ADAMS TWP -- A recent vehicle accident may lead to a shiny new sign to promote Adams Township Community Park.
During their meeting on Monday night, June 23, township supervisors announced that they intended to purchase an illuminated sign for the park and municipal building on Valencia Road.
“We are looking at a 4-foot by 6-foot electronic messaging center that would be updated to modern standards,” recently appointed township manager Michael Tylka said.
The replacement was necessitated after the previous sign was destroyed in a recent vehicle accident.
“We had a road rage incident where a guy lost control of his vehicle and hit the sign,” supervisor Ron Shemela said.
“There was an insurance claim, and we got money for it,” supervisor Russell Ford said. “We decided to upgrade the sign to a much nicer sign.”
Shemela said the incident occurred roughly two months ago and resulted in no injuries.
The motion to officially approve the sign replacement was tabled at Monday night’s meeting to allow more time for the township to obtain a cost estimate.
“It requires a new 220 (volt) electric line to be run,” Shemela said. “We don’t have that cost.”
The township also is reaching out to nearby residents to ensure that they have no problems with the illuminated signage. However, Tylka says the sign will have safeguards to prevent it from becoming too much of a nuisance.
“It can be dimmed, it can be turned off, and it can be accessed remotely if there is an issue,” Tylka said. “Our parks and rec director, or any member that's given authority to do so, can tweak it.”
The township’s police department will soon add a pair of new vehicles to its fleet, as supervisors approved the purchase of two Ford Explorer police cruisers during Monday’s meeting.
Each vehicle cost $47,360, for a total cost of $94,720. Ford said. The cost of the two vehicles was budgeted for at the start of the year.
Shemela said that the two vehicles will arrive soon after they arrive from the COSTARS dealer and are equipped for police work.
