Butler County to experience first heat wave of the year

Butler County residents will experience temperatures as high as the mid-90s next week as Western Pennsylvania is poised to undergo the first heatwave of the year.

Meteorologist Jared Rackley from the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh said Friday, June 20, will bring some dryness to the area for the first time this year. For the day, temperatures are expected to rise to 81 degrees, but remain within expected averages, he said.

However, on Saturday, June 21, Rackley said temperatures will begin to climb out of the norm. The day is expected to be mostly sunny with temperatures rising as high as 86 degrees.

“The dew point is also going to go up to the high-60s, which means it’ll be hot and sticky,” Rackley explained.

Temperatures are expected to inch up into the mid-90s on Sunday and will stay in that range through early next week, Rackley said. The dew point is expected to hold, leading into several days of heat and humidity.

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday are expected to remain sunny and hot, with highs forecast to hit 92 degrees on Sunday and 94 degrees on Monday and Tuesday.

Starting Wednesday, a chance for rain or thunderstorms will return, but the heat will remain with an expected high of 92 degrees.

Later in the week, temperatures are expected to dip back into the high-80s.

During the period of increased heat, Rackley reminded residents to take precautions.

“Make sure to drink fluids, stay in the shade, take breaks if you’re doing any type of activity and check in on anyone who may be susceptible to the heat,” he said.
