Seneca Valley graduate Matt Vogt will have a challenge ahead of him to make the cut at the U.S. Open.
The 2009 Raider opened the second major of the PGA season at Oakmont Country Club with a 12-over 82 in Thursday’s first round.
Vogt’s score placed him tied for 149th after the first round. The top 60 golfers after two rounds make the U.S. Open cut.
Vogt, an amateur, made the tournament after shooting consecutive rounds of 68 at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla, Wash., in a qualifier. He’s won medals at the WPIAL and PIAA golf championships as a senior in high school before golfing at Butler University (Ind.).
