Strother Brothers moving to former 228 Auto Mall in Adams Township
ADAMS TWP — Strother Brothers, an auto repair shop currently located in Richland Township, Allegheny County, will soon be packing up and moving.
The business is headed to a new location in Adams Township. The site of the former Route 228 Auto Mall on Scharberry Lane, which has been vacant for multiple years.
Adams Township dupervisors gave Strother Brothers the green light to move into the township by approving their conditional use permit during their meeting Monday night, June 9.
Strother Brothers owner Kevin Strother said the move was necessary, since the business, founded in 2021, had outgrown its current location.
“We have become very, very busy and need more techs in order to keep up with demand,” Strother said. “We need more space, need more technicians, need more everything. We have grown tremendously in the last couple of years and we need somewhere else to do our business.”
According to Strother, the Route 228 Auto Mall closed earlier in the decade due to COVID-19 and the resulting chip and labor shortages, both of which severely affected the automobile industry.
Aaron Shearer, the former owner of the Auto Mall, was on hand during Monday night’s meeting to support Strother.
“(By the end) he only had one technician that was actually able to do work,” Strother said. “So they just couldn’t handle the overheads and everything else there.”
Strother said the new location will open Tuesday, July 1, with a grand opening party four days later.
To celebrate the move, Strother said during Monday’s meeting they would be installing shrubbery outside their new location which will spell out “MARS.” While the building is technically located in Adams Township, the postal address puts it in Mars.
