Mother, sons plead guilty to robbery charges

A mother and her two sons pleaded guilty Monday to charges stemming from a July 2024 attempted robbery in which the victim’s vehicle was shot in Franklin Township.

Ashley D. Thomas, 40, and her sons Jerry B. Bodish, Jr., 23, and Anthony Bodish Jr., 19, pleaded guilty to a felony count of conspiracy to commit robbery and were scheduled to be sentenced June 18.

State police filed charges against the three following a July 29 incident outside of Thomas’s home.

According to an affidavit, Zelienople police called state police just after 5 a.m. July 30 and said the male accuser came to the police station and reported the incident.

Troopers went to the station and talked to the man, who told them the Bodishes shot his car while he was visiting Thomas at her home in the township. Police said they saw several bullet holes in the rear of his car.

During an interview at the state police barracks, the man reported he arrived at Thomas’ house just before 11 p.m., after she invited him.

He said Thomas entered the car and sat in the front passenger seat. After talking for about 10 minutes, the man said Anthony Bodish punched him in the face through the open front window, police said.

The man told police Thomas exited the car while he was trying to defend himself. He said he then put the car in reverse and backed down the driveway. Both Bodishes then approached the car while carrying long guns, he said. Anthony Bodish approached the driver’s side window and Jerry Bodish approached the front passenger side, both pointed guns at the man’s face, police said.

After turning his car around in the driveway, the man said he heard several gunshots and his car was hit several times, police said.

Police said they interviewed the Bodishes on July 30. Jerry Bodish told police he and his mother decided to invite the man over to rob him of drugs and that he would take the drugs from the man when he arrived, police said.

He said his mother told Anthony Bodish about the plan, and he agreed to act as a lookout, police said.

Jerry Bodish told police he tried to get drugs from the man, but he refused to give him any and asked to see Thomas, police said. A short time later, Jerry Bodish said he saw Anthony Bodish shoot at the man’s car, police said.

Anthony Bodish told police he knew the man was coming to the home and Jerry Bodish was going to rob him of drugs when he arrived, police said. He said Jerry Bodish and his mother asked him to serve as a lookout, police said.

Police said Anthony Bodish told them he was acting as a lookout when he saw Jerry Bodish and his mother approach the man, and then he approached and punched the man multiple times through the open window.

Anthony Bodish said he fired a shot at the car and Jerry Bodish fired two shots from a shotgun after their mother got out of the vehicle.

In Common Pleas Court Tuesday, Judge Timothy McCune accepted plea agreements the district attorney’s office reached with the public defender representing Thomas and the court-appointed attorneys representing the Bodishes.

The Bodishes will be sentenced to serve 18 to 40 months in county prison and Thomas will be sentenced to 15 to 36 months in state prison. The Bodishes have been held in the county prison in lieu of $100,000 bail since their arrest on July 30. Thomas’s bail was reduced to $50,000.

In a separate case, Thomas pleaded guilty to theft in a November 2023 incident in Lancaster Township and will be sentenced to six month of probation to run concurrently with the sentence in the Franklin Township case.
