Seneca Valley graduate Matt Vogt has qualified for the U.S. Open at Oakmont. A former all-state golfer for the Raiders, Vogt was the medalist in qualifying at the Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla, Wash., scoring two 4-under par 68s to claim one of two spots available to the field at the event.

“I knew I could do this,” Vogt told the Golf Channel. “I knew I could do it, and Oakmont and Pittsburgh and everything there, it means so much to me, having grown up in Pittsburgh and caddying there. It took every ounce of energy in my body not to think about that all day.”

Vogt placed fourth at the 2008 PIAA golf championship. He was a three-time letter-winning golfer at Seneca Valley and earned another two playing basketball.

Vogt golfed collegiately at Butler University after graduating from Seneca Valley in 2009.
