Roundup: Butler County’s Memorial Day events

Saturday

Prospect will have a Bicentennial/Memorial Day event on the borough’s Main Street. Children's activities start at 3 p.m., the parade at 4 p.m. and fireworks at 8:30 p.m.

Sunday

Cranberry Township will have a service from 1 to 2 p.m. at North Boundary Shelter at North Boundary Park, 1171 North Boundary Road, Cranberry Township. The ceremony is presented by the VFW Post 879.

The Shearer-Shick American Legion Post 454 and the VFW Post 7132 in Rimersburg will host Memorial Day commemoration services on Sunday and Monday. On Sunday, the service will take place at 3 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park on Main Street in Rimersburg, with guest speakers and music. In the case of inclement weather, the service will take place at Faith Fellowship Church of Rimersburg, 399 Main St.

Monday

Butler County Veterans Services will have its Memorial Day parade at 10:40 a.m. on Main Street in Butler, which will be followed by a ceremony in Diamond Park to honor veterans who have died in the last year.

The Chicora American Legion will host a Memorial Day parade, and the lineup will begin at 9 a.m. at the legion, 110 West Slippery Rock St., Chicora.

Rimersburg’s annual Memorial Day parade will begin at 9 a.m. Monday, starting at the Faith Fellowship Church. A program will ensue at the Rimersburg Cemetery once the parade arrives, where there will be an invocation, prayer and benediction. In the case of inclement weather, the program will take place at Union High School.

Saxonburg will have a Memorial Day parade at 10 a.m., which will move from Main Street to Roebling Park.

The Frank. P. Cheeseman American Legion Post 393 will conduct public Memorial Day services at 10 a.m. at the Slippery Rock Cemetery on Cemetery Road. Lt. Col. Brett Boyle, of SRU, will deliver the keynote address. Two eighth-grade students will receive awards and participate in the ceremonies. The Slippery Rock High School Band will perform, and a rifle squad will present the Military salute. Ceremonies will move to the Recreation Building at the Slippery Rock Park on North Main Street in case of inclement weather.

Zelienople will have a Memorial Day service beginning at 10 a.m. at Four Corners Park, sponsored by American Legion Post 474 Auxiliary.
