Adams Township names new manager

ADAMS TWP — After a monthlong search, Adams Township supervisors announced on Monday, May 12, that they had found and hired their next township manager.

Michael Tylka, who previously served as planning director for the Center Region Council of Governments in Center County, was chosen as the next manager from a pool of dozens of candidates. Tylka will replace former township manager Gary Peaco, who retired from his position in March.

The hiring of Tylka was made official at the board of supervisors meeting.

“We did an extensive interview with the gentleman, and after that interview, we really, really liked him,” said Supervisor Russell Ford. “We ran him through a day's worth of interviews. Everybody 100% thought he was a great candidate.”

“We had a large number of candidates (who) applied for the job,” said fellow Supervisor Darryl Brandon. “Mike quickly rose to the top of the of the pile for his qualifications. And when we had the chance to talk to him, it was unanimous. Everybody in this building got to talk to him, and I think we've got a very, very qualified candidate.”

Although Tylka will come over from a government organization based in Center County, Ford says that Tylka has been a resident of Adams Township in the past and has experience all over the state of Pennsylvania.

“He is born and raised in this area, but he's been traveling in different areas, and he’s been in the political field for about 12 years now,” Ford said.

Tylka’s first official day on the job will be May 27. He will be formally introduced at the next board of supervisors meeting on Monday, June 9.

There will be no second meeting held in May due to Memorial Day.
