Development of an 11 home subdivision in Fairview Township marks the first new single-family home development in the township in 50 years.

Barndo Estates, featuring three bedroom “barndominium” style homes, is being developed on a former golf course. The first home, possibly a model home, is under construction at 1215 Kittanning Pike.

Township officials said the last single-family home development approved in the township was the 51-lot Glenford Village Plan in 1975.

The new development includes trails, ponds, a fitness center, a wood-fired oven tavern and a clubhouse. The five models of homes being offered have rustic exteriors with open floor plans and modern features built on large lots. Utilities includes on-lot septic systems and well water.

The Butler County planning commission gave conditional approval in April to the final development plan, but noted Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection approval of the on-lot sewage component plan is pending. The developer is planning a second phase with additional homes, but those plans haven’t been submitted, said Nathan Werner, assistant planning director.

According to the development website, a total of 33 homes are being planned and 10 lots are under contract.

Developer Michael O’Neill could not be reached for comment.
